I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1-3 ESV
These verses are literally at the top of my favorite verses list. I love Paul’s way of writing! And to be honest, the first time I read it I had been struggling with humility and God used these verses to really minister to me. So they are really dear to my heart.
This morning however, while reading I got a new perspective…….
He was a Pharisee (and a zealous one at that!) Until he had an encounter with Jesus that changed his life forever.
Paul became a Christian and applied his same former radical mindset to serving Jesus and fulfilling his assigned mandate of spreading the Gospel to the Gentiles which was the name for every non-Jew (that’s us!!).
But what amazed me is that despite being imprisoned several times, the Apostle Paul did not wallow in self pity or think that he had to wait until he left prison to continue his ministry!!
Instead he used those moments (each time he was imprisoned) to respond to the issues affecting the various churches – most of which he had founded.
And these letters are what God used…….in the BIBLE!!
What would have happened if Paul hadn’t had the right perspective?!!
What will happen if I stop feeling sorry for myself and see what God is doing in the midst of my pain and frustration right now?!
What could happen if we choose to focus on God and not on our issues?!
Paul’s CHANGE IN PERSPECTIVE……..changed the World.
And is a good example to me that right where I am right now (in the midst of a storm), is a good opportunity for God to use me.
Where I am is where I am supposed to be.
So my encouragement to you today is: Let God use you EVEN NOW!
Right where you are.
Who knows what may come out of it.
